Courage is not the Absence of Fear…

It is the determination to act despite the Fear.

Today I’ve love to share you with 10 Common Myths about Fearless Leadership. Some you may resonate with 🙂

And this is particularly important for new leaders who watch those who have gone before them, thinking success only happens for those who are without fear.

Myth #1 – To be fearless is the absence of fear, that taking action means you have no doubts, worry’s or concerns. Believing that leaders have no fear at all.

Myth #2 – Action should be delayed until you FEEL good about the the activity. Thereby confusing emotions with taking risks.

Myth #3 – That fear or self-doubt is a sign that you should not proceed. That the emotion is a symbol from the Universe/God that it’s not the right thing to do;

Myth #4 – That there is something wrong with you because you have fear or low levels of anxiety. Thinking that your ideas, your plans couldn’t work because of the emotions.

Myth #5 – That the emotion is actually Fear rather then nervousness, excitement or simply discomfort. Not recognising that when we are out of our comfort zone your subconscious mind will try to talk you out of it.

Myth #6 – That courage isn’t for you. That you’ve never been courageous. And instead, leaving those aspirations up to the ‘bold’ ones’;

Myth #7 – That people around you don’t expect you to take risks. So if you’ve played it safe or played it small before then why change now? Instead of realising your goals are worth it!

Myth #8 – That you couldn’t possibly handle the new challenges that will come your way. Are you capable? Could you deal with the bigger and better problems? Of course you can!

Myth #9 – Thinking that the fear will always be there. That it won’t go away. Rather then taking the risk to realise that emotions shift and change. That excitement, pride, feeling elated could be possible.

Myth #10 – Waiting for the emotion to leave you before you take action. The belief that you should wait for something to change, so you can experience a different emotion before acting.

And a couple of BONUS Myths…

Myth #11 – Focussing on what could go wrong rather then what could go right. Over-analysing. Over-complicating the simplicity of that which brings momentum.

Myth #12 – That I need to have an Executive title to be a leader. Instead of realising that leadership is about those who set higher standards. And influence change.

I trust this has added some value and inspiration to your day 🙂
